cannot install :-(
April 07, 2009, 09:57:10 pm
I'm trying to install CiviCRM on my Joomla 1.5.8 site, but like a few other posts here cannot get it to install...following the directions as printed:  Uploaded the zip file to the /tmp folder, decompressed it there, then ran the install from directory (/tmp/com_civicrm).  Continue to get a "Please enter a package directory" error.
Surely I'm missing something, and I bet its something simple...but what on earth am I missing?!  I've tried both the "regular" and the "alt" versions.

Any help is appreciated!  Cheers!

install from directory has to have the full root path to the unzipped package. if you just put /tmp/com_civicrm/ that's not sufficient, as it's the relative directory from wherever joomla is installed.

that error indicates you simply don't have the right directory location identified

If you are using a hosting provider, please post back w/ the name of the provider (and the plan / costs if you're comfortable with that). It would be good to have a decent set of hosting providers which folks can use for Joomla! + CiviCRM (as many folks have had problems installing on some of the cheaper hosting providers).

Also would be great to indicate performance level of Civi in you environment (screen load time etc...)
