Changing Servers
April 08, 2009, 07:10:44 am
In a week or so I need to move a live Drupal/Civi site from one server to another. Whenever I have moved a site before, it was from my development machine to a production server, and on both occasions it has not gone smoothly, despite following the instructions at http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Moving+an+Existing+Installation+to+a+New+Server+or+Location to the letter. What appears to happen is that I lose some of the configuration settings that I have implemented while on the development machine, and have to go through it all again on the liver server.

This is tolerable, although annoying, on a new site. On a live site with loads of data it could well be much more damaging. Is there any information about what gets re-set when a site is moved, so that at least I'll know what I need to re-configure post-migration? Or am I doing something wrong, and nothing should get changed during a move?

If anyone can offer any tips on a smooth move, I would be very grateful.

Regards
Graham

might be site configuration related information get re-set so would be good if you check Configuration Checklist from "Administer CiviCRM". (do check url related to your machine )

If you follow the wiki instructions you should not lose any of the settings

You might want to do a test move to the new server before the live move :)

Thanks. I'll certainly do a test first - thanks for the tip.
