Hi I've just replicated this on http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org

advanced search > tick "do not email" > search > hit edit on one of the results > and "do not email" is not ticked!

e.g Inner City Arts on http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org

Actually I'm pretty sure this is working "as advertised". Most use cases for the privacy settings are to "Exclude contacts with these settings" from the search results. So, if I am preparing to send email to folks who live in California - and I don't want folks with "Do Not Email" flagged - then I check that box - and they are excluded.

If however I want to find folks with that privacy option, I also need to check the box below:
Include contacts who have these privacy option(s).

This is described in the inline help (click on the question mark in that section).

OK after looking at this again I see what you mean. The correct search is done after ticking the box, and reading the inline help.
