Unable to access templates_c/
April 11, 2009, 11:04:20 am
When I try to install CiviCRM, I get this error:

Warning: mkdir() [function.mkdir]: Unable to access /var/www/vhosts/DOMAIN.com/httpdocs/sites/default/files/civicrm/templates_c/ in /var/www/vhosts/DOMAIN.com/httpdocs/sites/all/modules/civicrm/install/civicrm.php on line 27

I tried several times to create that directory using my FTP program but it keeps failing saying permission denied!! which is very strange, the folder access is 777 and it still denies..

Are there any solutions? thanks.

I am pretty sure that this has something to do with my server rather than drupal or civiCRM but if anyone has any clues let me know  ???

As you rightly guessed, this is a problem with file/directory permissions. Note that while your FTP client contacts as ‘you’ (e.g., the tehruni system user), CiviCRM might be running as the WWW server (e.g., the www-data user). Permissions of 777 should take care of that, though, so it’s a bit hard to guess what’s exactly wrong; your system administrator might be the best person to ask.
If you found the above helpful, please consider helping us in return – you can even steer CiviCRM’s future and help us extend CiviCRM in ways useful to you.
