Using CiviMember and Ubercart together
April 11, 2009, 06:36:00 pm
I'm building a site with both CiviCRM and Ubercart integrated, so that my client can sell products via Ubercart, but also sell memberships and event places through CiviMember (and CiviEvent).

If an anonymous user signs up for membership using a signup page I can require them to register for a Drupal account at the same time, which is very useful and ensures that all members will have a Drupal account, but the online help states that for this to work Email Verification must be turned on.

At the same time the advice from Ubercart is to turn Email Verification off, as this is unfriendly in terms of e-commerce.

Result: dilemma. It seems I can have members as Drupal users, but at the price of damaging my online sales. Or I can streamline sales but not have new members create a Drupal account en route. Clearly it would be ideal to achieve both. If I leave Email Verification off, will the Drupal user registration within the membership signup process simply not work? Or is there scope to leave the verification switched off?

Regards
Graham

Hi Graham - I think we suppress the user account signup block if email verification is not enabled in Drupal. I don't remember the details, but I think we hit some problems getting our interaction to work in BOTH modes (email verification true and false). I see there is some stub code still in the relevant template to handle prompting the user for a password (templates/common/CMSUser.tpl).

If you can submit a patch that makes things work with either method we can consider adding that for 2.3. Check CRM/Core/BAO/CMSUser.php for the main "action" and ping us on IRC if you need more info.
