Corrupt csv file with excel but not notepad
April 13, 2009, 01:07:06 pm
Should they just use notepad?
Just kidding.
They go to export the file from an advance search and it says file corrupted.
But the same file can be opened fine in notepad and saved as a new name then opened in excel?
I sent them to the sandbox and it just works fine.

Firefox, Excel 2007, Windows XP.

When I test it it all works fine w/ openoffice.

Thanks!

just noticed something in the file.
The attached image opened in notepad shows a character I am not sure about.
I remove it and all is well.
This only happens in windows.
Tried in IE and FF.

I normally use hexedit to see what the character is but I'm a bit sad like that ....

Right, but I rather not figure out what it is ( -: but why.
No other site does this of ours.
The ONLY difference from this site and others is ONE thing drupal was set to private downloads.
But this should not really matter for this.

Is first name the first field in your export mapping? You seem to have a few spaces as well as that odd character

Hi,

Looks like it's the webserver that "does" something to me. Does it force a charset ? add an extra something automatically ? do you have this char in the "normal" html pages as well ?

(ie. might have drupal that adds something weird to all the pages, that isn't seen in html but is when that's a txt file.)

Have a look of pages (and/or headers) using firebug (the net panel). see if there is the same extra char on both.
