switch price sets during registration period?

i want to have on price set for early bird fees and one other for late registration fees (i need price sets because of the multiple fee types).

is it possible to switch price sets for an event during the registration period? or do the existing registrations up to this point get "updated" with the prices from the new price set?

yes, this should be possible. we store most of the important info in a participant specific table (civicrm_line_item)

You should test it and see if it meets your needs. I suspect there will be some areas where we display info from the updated price set entries
