Ajax and the Rest

I seem to be hitting this from a few different directions. I want to be able to populate an Ajax box for anonymous users with names of available people. But the REST interface search doesn't seem to work for this because they don't have permissions.

The information I want is exposed via Profile so what I really want to be able to do is get the profile information in JSON format (preferably being able to pass through search fields but not essential at this stage.)

Cool - will it be possible to configure how many fields go into the autofill or whatever - e.g. you might want FirstName+LastName+Country or possibly FirstName+LastName+CurrentEmployer to display when selecting

Oh - a further extension which would be really exciting is a similar box based on this could create relationships. Only employer relationships are currently created through profile forms but a relationship FK box that allowed selection of another contact would rock.
