Displaying CiviEvents in Drupal
April 15, 2009, 05:26:02 pm
So, I've been trying to figure this one out and a search didn't really answer my question at all...
I'm using Drupal 6.10 and CiviCRM 2.2.0, and I would like to know how I can get CiviEvents to display in a calendar or list (or any kind really) on a page for the public to view, click and read more info on, and then register for events. Ideally, the calendar would automatically update from CiviEvents instead of requiring constant manual updates. It doesn't matter if it displays as a calendar or what, just as long as there is something.

Any ideas on how to do this? Is there a module I should use, and if so which ones?

Thanks

Eileen

This is close to being possible with Views2. Views2 has been recently patched & someone is currently working on a patch for the civiCRM date handler to allow dates to show correctly (elsewhere on this forum). I expect in the next couple of weeks it will be working.

At the moment there is a roundabout way that works with an ICAL feed (as long as it is available to anonymous user).

More about both methods is discussed in the forums

I saw a little bit about this in the forums but I admittedly didn't really understand much. I also got Views2 but I cannot figure out how to configure it to work, much less work with CiviCRM Events.

Is there a thread or a site that anyone knows of that explains how to use Views2 and CiviCRM? or where the patch is?

This is the ical method

http://drupal.org/node/341716

Bit of a drag but it Does work if you have your ical feed exposed to anonymous users

This is the person working on the views integration

http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,7534.0.html

And this guy explains how you would create a calendar with Views in general (although there are a few more steps to get the integration going

OR - you can upgrade the latest release of 2.2 (2.2.2). Starting with 2.2.1 the Drupal version of CiviCRM supplies a pretty nice Upcoming Events block - listing your upcoming events - which you can place almost anywhere on your site (admin >> site building >> blocks).

You can see it on the left sidebar (near the bottom - but that's change-able obviously) at:

I do wish to upgrade...

Can you make the block show up as a node? I checked on the sandbox site and saw a link to a full calendar page but it wouldn't show up when I clicked on it. Was there a requisite to be logged in? Can it be for anonymous site viewers too?

that would be a drupal setting - try your site/admin/build/block/configure/civicrm/128

... but to confirm, there is no out of the box Calendar option to go with the new CiviCRM Upcoming Events block. To get a calendar you'll need to work thru the iCal / Drupal Calendar method posted above by Eileen.

Thank you all for your help! I really appreciate it. I will probably go with the iCal/Drupal Calendar method, that seems closest to what we are looking for.

Thanks again!!

I think I posted some notes on that method in another thread - things I didn't find intuitive
