Profile form error msg- but it works fine
April 16, 2009, 08:46:08 pm
Hi I am having trouble with my forms
after upgrading from drupal 5 to 6
and We currently use civicrm 2.1.4

I have several basic forms for volunteers - they were working fine - it sends name/ email/address data to group, and emails out to admin of group etc.
Since the upgrade users have been getting a fault msg after user has completed form and hit save

"We had a problem processing your subscription request. Please contact the site administrator"

But underneath it also says
"Thank you. Your information has been saved. "

and sure enough data is coming in and emailing sending out fine.
I get the same problem when creating a new profile from scratch.

Any ideas on how to fix?
Can I just get rid of the msg?

alfred:

can you reproduce this on the demo machine. if so, do file an issue and we'll fix for 2.2.x

I knew you would ask that ( -:
http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/profile/create?reset=1&gid=5
But the captcha is not working which I am worried is part of 'our' problem.
I updated this site cause 2.1 did not work with a captcha and updating existing users.
Wonder if this recaptch is worth it.

since u knew we would ask you that, maybe in future, you can first try it out on demo and give us the link :)

i've fixed the recaptcha issue (see, you trying it out revealed a bug, http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-4391)

i entered a new contact and it worked as expected. wanna give it a shot again

thanx

you got me there.

Alright this looks good.
I guess it is on our end.
Is there a way to turn up the debug?

I was wondering if you figured out why your site was giving you this error.  I upgraded to 2.2.8 and am experiencing the same user registration problem, even though the user is correctly registered.

Hi all
no I have never resolved this and have just finished upgrading (to 2.2.8 ) to see if that would help but to no avail..
I have isolated the problem down to using the Contact / email field in a profile.
So i am testing this by itself (other fields seem to work fine)
On my site It works (as in collects the email)  but gives user the message "we had a problem processing your subscription request. Please Contact site administrator"

So today I tested it in the sandbox (ver 3)  - and low and behold - the same problem appears - with notice
"We had a problem processing your subscription request. Please contact the site administrator"

So what am i doing wrong?

My aim is to create a simple sign up via email address that goes to group for the purpose of later sending out newsletter.

In the sandbox I:
1) created a group "email keeper" as a mailing list
2) created a profile - used for "profile", i don't limit listings to a group, and I add new contacts to "email keeper group". I also tick "Update contact on a duplicate match?"
3) I then edit fields in this profile, select "Contact / "email" - primary - Visbilty User and user admins only,
and that's it - i check out my profile page,
put in a dummy email - the group collects the email -
but I get the fault message -

any ideas - would really appreciate help - thanks

Dear Mr Scrubbadub.

So after a bit of digging, I think the issue here is the settings on the Group. If you check the Visibility settings for a Group the help text says

Quote
Select 'User and User Admin Only' if membership in this group is controlled by authorized CiviCRM users only. If you want to allow contacts to join and remove themselves from this group via the Registration and Account Profile forms, select 'Public Pages'.

So I suspect what is happening is that to use a Profile to sign up to a Group (rather than add them to a Group while collecting other information about them perhaps) you need to have the Group set to Public Pages.

In doing so, instead of getting the message

Quote
We had a problem processing your subscription request. Please contact the site administrator

You will get the message

Quote
Your subscription request has been submitted. Check your inbox shortly for the confirmation email(s). If you do not see a confirmation email, please check your spam/junk mail folder.

Which does make me wonder about the status of the contacts who are added to the Group when the Group is not set to Public Pages? Are they 'in' the group, but will not receive newsletters or what?

Not sure this is clearly covered in The Book (damn, I wrote lots of that Profiles chapter ;-( - or maybe it is in another chapter) but then maybe this is an edge case since people who want anonymous to sign up to a newsletter, will take the option of using the pre-built "Mailing List Subscription" option at this URL .../civicrm/mailing/subscribe?reset=1 - which will list the Groups that are set to Public Pages.

Guess the other issue for you, is if you want people to subscribe without having to do the Confirmation step. Am sure there have been threads on this topic if you care to search.

Good luck

Thanks to assistance from PeterD

the culprit to this was indeed the receiving Group setting -
To work with contacts/email

Visibility needed to be set to "public User Pages"

If this is an intended process then I would reccommend this be made a little clearer in the documentation.

Thanks everybody..
(- the relief you feel when it finally works - yee har)
