Upgrade error: JFile::read: Unable to open file: '..../civicrm.settings.php.tpl'
April 18, 2009, 03:19:25 am
Hi!

I am trying to upgrade CiviCRM in a Joomla 1.5.10-site, hosted service. I have followed the wiki instructions on http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Upgrade+Joomla+Sites+to+2.2.

So I:

1. Unistalled existing CiviCRm 2.1.2
2. Installed 2.2 by entering the folder it was unzipped in.

Not the installer gives an error msg:

        * JFile::read: Unable to open file: '/home/agslo/public_html/agslo.se/administrator/components/com_civicrm/civicrm/templates/CRM/common/civicrm.settings.php.tpl'
        * JFile::read: Unable to open file: '/home/agslo/public_html/agslo.se/administrator/components/com_civicrm/civicrm/templates/CRM/common/civicrm.settings.php.tpl'

Folowed by:

Install Component Success

I tried running the database upgrade script (relying on the success message) but it presents me with a blank screen. And trying to access CiviCRM in the admin interface gives only a blank screen.

Checking the filesystem, there is no templates folder in administrator/components/com_civicrm/civicrm. Only one file, civicrm.config.php.

Any advice, help needed....

Magnus Larsson

Some added info:
the user on the site is called agslo. When running the install script, the administrator/components/com_civicrm is created, with permissions:

drwxr-xr-x  3 agslo webdev 4096 2009-04-18 13:43 com_civicrm

and the contents have permissions:

-rw-r----- 1 agslo webdev     1218 2009-04-18 13:43 admin.civicrm.php
drwxr-xr-x 2 agslo webdev       31 2009-04-18 13:43 civicrm
-rw-r----- 1 agslo webdev        0 2009-04-18 13:43 civicrm.settings.php
-rw-r----- 1 agslo webdev     1944 2009-04-18 13:43 civicrm.xml
-rw-r----- 1 agslo webdev 12115171 2009-04-18 13:43 civicrm.zip
-rw-r----- 1 agslo webdev     5830 2009-04-18 13:43 configure.php
-rw-r----- 1 agslo webdev     2747 2009-04-18 13:43 install.civicrm.php
-rw-r----- 1 agslo webdev     1116 2009-04-18 13:43 toolbar.civicrm.html.php
-rw-r----- 1 agslo webdev      165 2009-04-18 13:43 toolbar.civicrm.php
-rw-r----- 1 agslo webdev      686 2009-04-18 13:43 uninstall.civicrm.php

As stated above, the directory civicrm contains the following:
-rw-r----- 1 agslo webdev 112 2009-04-18 13:43 civicrm.config.php

I found these permissions strange, since my understanding was that the install was run by user webdev, but this user seems not to be granted write permissions to the directories created.... Just at thought.

I tried chaning these permissions, giving webdev write permissions to the directory com_civicrm (and subdirs), but it did not help - same error.

Are you using the latest CiviCRM release for Joomla! (v2.2.2). If you are using an earlier 2.2 version (e.g. 2.2.1) there is an issue w/ Joomla 1.5.10 that gives a similar problem. Check this doc on the wiki:

Hi!

Thanks for you reply. Yes, I am using civicrm 2.2.2 (civicrm-2.2.2-joomla.zip). I have downloaded three times, checked the file, and the transfer to the hosted site etc, but problem persists. And I used the same package as I used for my local test site - also joomla 1.5.10 - where it went smoothly, no problems. But still precisely the same problem.

What else to check or try, or any other information that could be useful for you?

(since this is the live site, I am quite anxious to get it up and working..... )

Best,

Magnus

Hi again!

Solved. Using the alt-version of the installation package solved the problem, probably there was an issue with the php-unzip on the server, even though it did not produce any errors that I could see.
