Multiple Registrations with same Email
April 19, 2009, 11:56:48 am
Hi

I recently upgraded from 2.1.4 to 2.2.2, which added the feature of multiple registrations with the same email. I have enabled this feature in the event configuration. However, when someone tries to register another person that has the same last name and email (different first names), the contact is overwritten, but a new event registration occurs. Has anyone run into this issue? I have used the search tool as well as google, but have not been able to find anything. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could help me out, this is driving me crazy! Thanks.

Eileen

You need to look at your dedupe rules - administer civi/ contact matching rules.

Check the strict rule - it defines the criteria when a contact is deemed to be a match

Thanks for the quick reply Eileen. I have tried that already, maybe I am doing it wrong.

I went to Administer CiviCRM -> Find and Merge Duplicate Contacts. I then edited the strict individual rule.
I set email, first name, and last name each to 10, and setup a threshold of 30.

So in my case where a user with the same last name and email registers (different first name) this rule should not trigger.

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

Eileen

It shouldn't trigger but if they have also made a credit card payment the billing e-mail will have been populated and if two e-mails match it counts twice. I have weighted the First Name heavily in an attempt to mitigate this (I think I raised it on a forum but not sure it's been logged as an issue)

I tried reproducing this on the sandbox but I got an error.

As per Eileen's advice I weighted First Name as 20, Last Name as 10, and Email as 10, with a threshold of 40. This appeared to solve the problem.

Thank you Eileen and Donald, I appreciate your help in this issue :)
