Problems upgrading from 2.0.5 to 2.2 on Joomla 1.5.9 hosted at Siteground...
April 26, 2009, 08:02:07 am
I have an installation of Joomla 1.5.9. Before yesterday civicrm 2.0.5 was working (with some access). I uninstalled civicrm 2.0.5 first thinking that was the first step to installing 2.1, and then 2.2. However, I ran into problems and can't seem to get any civicrm version working. How might I proceed to get the latest version of civicrm working on my site?

My host is Siteground. When I try to install civicrm - no matter which version - the administrative session of joomla times out. My first installation was completed by the administrators at Siteground. However, with upgrades and/or migrations, my small company will not be able to afford the technical support fees needed, it seems.

I have about 1,500 records in my sql database.

I asked the staff at Siteground what they think the problem might be.

My question:

I uninstalled civicrm 2.0.5 so that I could install v. 2.1. When I did this in Joomla I received this message: Component Install: Another Component is already using directory: "/home/ysi1/public_html/components/com_civicrm" I need to gain access to my data again and am trying to upgrade to civicrm 2.2. How can this be accomplished?

Their answer:

The error message that you are getting is due to the fact that you are trying to install the new version of civicrm in the same directory in which version 2.0.5. Please note that two components cannot co-exist in one and the same folder. Unfortunately we are not aware of the scripting method that is used in the files that your component is using. Therefore we are not able to provide you with exact instructions how to upgrade your component. What I can advise you is to remove the current version of civicrm and install the new one.

Previous to trying to install 2.1, I removed the civicrm folders, but that didn't seem to work. Does anyone have any other ideas of how I might get the latest version of civicrm installed?

The pellet with the poison is in the chalice from the palace. The vessel with the pestle has the brew that is true.

You might want to closely follow this instructions: http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Upgrade+Joomla+Sites+to+2.2
