embedded HTML link problems
April 26, 2009, 01:08:10 pm
We're having problems with embedded html links withing emails sent out to our newsletter list. We are using CiviCRM 2.2 and Open Office Write to create the html version of our newsletter. The embedded token's appear to be working but if we create a hot link in the newsletter to a story, poll, etc. those links appear to be hot but they are not clickable. Does anyone have any ideas or solutions?

Thank you

I think we've solved this problem. At least enough to send out bulk emails with live links working. I thought it would be helpful to let everyone know what we came up with in case anyone else is having this, or a similar issue. First, do not use MS Word for your HTML newsletter, it doesn't create a clean page and depending upon the email reader, it can create a wide range of problems. The current version of Open Office Write, saving as an HTML page works great without issues. Second, select Use VERP; we've been told that not using that could create some possible SPAM issues with some email programs (yahoo, gmail, hotmail, etc). Also, do not select "Click Through Tracking." Once we unselected this as an option the embedded HTML links worked just fine.

The ‘Click Through Tracking’ feature shouldn’t break any links. If you have the time, can you share with us a problematic email with links broken due to the click-through tracking rewrite?
If you found the above helpful, please consider helping us in return – you can even steer CiviCRM’s future and help us extend CiviCRM in ways useful to you.
