Contact Mismatch on Contributions

Help!

This has happened twice now - when someone goes to contribute - it adds the new contact information onto an existing contact record that has a similarity in the contact name.

Example:

W.B Anderson donated today - his billing information and email address was added to Nancy Anderson's profile.  When the contributor gets his email receipt, the name it is sent to was "Nancy Anderson" at W.B. Anderson's email address.

And Nancy Anderson's profile now shows 2 contributions, where she has only had one and W.B. should have his own profile with 1 contribution.  The two are not related other than their last name.

Why is it going this?  I can't find anyone having a similar issue.  I don't have any mappings turned on.  Is there a contact-match that happens on contribute that I am missing?

Please help - this is major glitch and the site is live.

Do W.B.Anderson and Nancy Anderson share the same email address? Other than the last name is there anything in common between their two records?

You should check the strict dedupe rules (administer CiviCRM >> Find and Merge Duplicate Contacts) and edit them as needed

Thanks!  My contacts weren't set up to dupe by email for some reason!  fixed and made rules much stricter to avoid in futre!
