Hello,
I was planning on using community builder to expand joomla's customer data management capabilities, but now that I am looking at CiviCRM I am wondering if this might be a better solution.

Please confirm:

I can define new user types in CiviCRM and have them impact joomla?  For example, I will have (a) home buyers, (b) home sellers, (c) real estate agents, (d) brokers, etc... each will have different needs, permissions, etc.  If I define this in CiviCRM, is this something that will be usable in Joomla?  For example, I am thinking of using MetaMod (http://www.brandonitconsulting.co.uk/mod_metamod/) in Joomla.  So, if I store that a user is an agent in CiviCRM, will joomla be able to read this so it can tell MetaMod to make module A available instead of module B?

I also stumbled across this post, which seems to be related to my question ( I am learning that the concept that I seem to be circling is the ACL issue... but I am a newbie, so I might be wrong about this):

In general, I am asking how much integration is there really between CiviCRM and Joomla 1.5???
