CiviCRM adapted to 'for profit' world
May 01, 2009, 08:40:29 am
Hello,
Can anyone share some sites that are using CiviCRM in the 'for profit' world?

Our CRM needs are not complex and from what I read about Civi, I believe it will satisfy our needs... but, the seeming lack of installs in the  'for profit' world has me a little worried.

Any examples would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,
Mike

PS. if anyone knows of an article that nicely compares functionality between Sugar and Civi that might be helpful too.  Many thanks, again.

Mike - it totally depends on your requirements. While most of our installs have been in the not-for-profit sector, and mostly in the advocacy arena, we have implemented and scoped several that were far more commercial in purpose, some of which were purely commercial, others of which were not-for-profits that were generating significant turnover through sales of products and services.

Hi Mike,

As with all CRM installations (nonprofit and forprofit), it depends on your needs.  Private Message me a list if you don't feel like posting it online.

For a for-profit group, CiviCRM can handle the basic needs including:
- multi-user contact mgmt and scheduling
- connectivity & interactivity with your website (forms, customer portal, etc)
- email marketing

I haven't done it myself but I'm pretty sure the Contribute module can forecast sales and track completed sales.

A downside will be that the terminology used throughout the system doesn't match up so well to your business.

Lastly, with each CiviCRM installation it's important to contribute to the health CiviCRM with donation at http://civicrm.org/donate (for-profit companies especially :))

My favorite example is using CiviCRM for Real Estate companies.

Households become properties, and relationships identify the Realtor, the Owner, potential buyers, etc. You can do open houses as events, you can track the duration of listing agreements with memberships, etc. It works great.
