Some participants listed many times
May 04, 2009, 10:49:32 am
Hi all.

I'm a bit confused. I have an event set up with CiviEvent. Some participants are listed numerous times, generally either all as "pending" or once as "registered" and the rest as "pending".

What does this mean?

Thanks,

Shrill

HI - is the civiCRM version you have on your profile still correct? This behaviour is a bit variable between versions.

Do you have a payment processor set up? Are you using pay later?

Hi. Yes, the version is still the same. I do have a pay later option and I am using PayPal.

Cheers,

If you are using paypal standard it's likely that people are having trouble paying and retrying - hence creating more than one pending enrolment. It's been a bit variable between versions but generally more than one pending registration can be created but only one registered one.

We had people run into problems about 10% of the time when we were using Paypal standard. They present a login screen rather than a credit card screen if you have paypal cookies on your computer.

Interesting. Yes, we do have Paypal standard. How did you get around it?

Cheers,

Hmm. That's not possible in this case. Any ideas?

Is there an easy way to delete/ combine the extra records?

Cheers

Okay, so I just tried this by logging into paypal then logging out and testing my form. They get the login screen yes, but there is also a section that says "Don't have a PayPal account?
Use your credit card or bank account (where available). Continue". Were your users getting a different screen or were they just not noticing the alternate option?

Thanks,

Shrill

I have been told they have made it a little more obvious since I abandoned paypal but my users were simply not seeing or understanding that option.

Also, if you are using a billing address e-mail that does have a paypal account paypal will not let you pay without logging in (and it might force you to use your registered credit card). That was problematic in some cases

Hi again Eileen.

So if I delete the "pending" entries, will that do anything to the "registered" entries (ie. the people who eventually managed to register)?

Thanks,

Shrill

Nope - go ahead and do it - it you delete the participation records it should delete any related contribution records. (which is a good thing) but check because I think it may not have been working on v 2.0.7

Good point: it wasn't working :) So I assume that I can go ahead and delete contribution records too?

Okay, something else very interesting. I narrowed down the people who only had pendings to their name (no registered status). Some of them actually paid with Paypal.

Is something going on there?

Thanks,

Shrill
