Unzipping on server? Installing CiviCRM => 500 Error
May 04, 2009, 01:24:55 pm
Hello there,

I'm amazed with the possibilities of CiviCRM. I tried to install the component and the following happened:

  • I wasn't able to unzip the ZIP-file in my root/tmp/ folder (in fact I don't know how to)
  • Therefore, I decided to unzip the file locally and upload the complete folder com_civicrm to the tmp-folder on my server, using FileZilla. The next step I took was to use the "Install from folder"-option. I filled in the path /exampleroot/tmp/com_civicrm/ and clicked Install. After a minute or so, I received a 500 Server Error.

When checking my webfolders with FileZilla, it seemed that something was installed; both the administrator and components folder contained CiviCRM files and folders. However, no MySQL database tables were created.

Can anyone help me out with this please, because this really neat component exactly answers my demands...

Hi Franklin,

This seems like a server timing out or resources issue. Also, are you sure your web hosting company supports InnoDB for MySQL?

I checked with my hosting provider and they answered that the server software was fully compatible with the installation of civicrm. My host however advised to install from a direct link, rather than the com_civicrm folder which is in the /joomla_root/tmp/ folder. Can anyone provide me with the URL of the latest (2.2.2) Joomla! CiviCRM package? I couldn't locate it on the site...

http://heanet.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/civicrm/civicrm-2.2.2-joomla.zip

I don't think this is going to work though. But the above direct link is from Heanet Mirror (Ireland) of sourceforge.
