multiple records for Custom Data Group for Events

My organization, Art of Living, is using currently discount codes and expenses stored for each event.
I'm planning to use Custom Data Group for Events to store this data, but I cannot see the option for storing multiple records for a custom data group for event types.

Is this a bug or a missing feature?

I'm not quite sure what you are asking.  In our database we have multiple custom data sets for event participants and it works fine.
Can you describe specifically with an example what you are trying to do?

Hi Sarah,

When I try to add a custom data group used for  Contacts, I get this option checkbox: Does this Custom Data Group allow multiple records?
The same option doesn't show up if I select Events.

currently only custom groups that extend contact can have multiple records. this is a new feature introduced in 2.2 and we are figuring out how to roll it out to other custom groups and profiles. I suspect this will come up in a future 2.x release

I know this thread is old but I believe it's still not possible to set a Custom Data Group for Events to have multiple records.  We're thinking of implementing this functionality for a current project.

In our case, we have a client that will be using event templates to create a lot (approx. 100) templates pre-populated with common data for those events.  One of the items they'd like to set in the template is the Presenter.  Normally, I'd imagine you'd just associate the presenter as a participant with the presenter role, but since they want to be able to set this value in the template and reuse it, that won't work.

It would be an easy solution if they wanted to associate only 1 presenter, but they have as many as 6 different presenters.  I'd rather not overload their event configuration display with a bunch of Presenter fields they normally won't be using, so I was going to create a Presenter custom data set configured for multiple records and create a Contact Reference field in that set.

If we do decide to implement the ability to have multiple records for Event Custom Data Sets, are there any obvious pitfalls we should keep in mind?  Any technical reason this wasn't added yet, or is it just that it's a fairly low priority issue?  I took a look through the issue tracker but the only somewhat related issue I could find was http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-4084, which deals more with general improvements to the multiple records functionality.

1. It was not done because it was a low priority issue

2. I'm not sure when you use "event templates" if the custom fields are copied over. You'll need to fix this also

3. When u r adding support for this, the main work will be in create/edit/view of those custom fields for an event. You should be able to follow the contact code to do the needful

ping us on irc if u need help (that said, we are at a conference and a training) most of the week so are not around a lot this week :) (however the india and polish team members are around in their respective timezones

no. unfortunately we've not had any folks willing to code and/or sponsor this feature. if your org can help with this that would be a great first step
