Unable to install CiviCRM with Joomla on Dreamhost?[SOLVED]
May 04, 2009, 08:48:24 pm
I've seen some postings from a couple of years ago talking about problems with getting CiviCRM running on a Dreamhost shared server but nothing recently.  So far, I've been unsuccessful.  Here's what I tried:

Uploading and installing CiviCRM using the Dreamhost Web FTP gadget.  - While this method has been successful with other ftp uploads to my Dreamhost account, for some reason, I am unable to upload either the civicrm-2.2.2-joomla.zip or the civicrm-2.2.2-joomla-alt.zip files.  In both cases, the server times out and redirects me to the home page.

Uploading and installing CiviCRM using the extensions upload feature in Joomla. -The server times out.

I was able to upload the zip file directly to the server using Cyberduck (ftp client for Mac OS X) but I could find no way to install the zipped file from within Joomla.

I was able to upload the unzipped com_civicrm but when I attempt to install, I get this message:

Your PHP version is missing zip functionality. Please ask your system administrator / hosting provider to recompile PHP with zip support.

If this is a new install, you will need to uninstall CiviCRM from the Joomla Extension Manager.

I've tried both the standard and the alt version of the zip file with the same results.

Have I missed something or is Dreamhost the problem?

Thanks in advance

Newbie Dave

Hi Dave,

It looks like Dreamhosts problem. Another resources issue. I am working on a quick and dirty way of installing Joomla & CiviCRM. It has the latest Joomla 1.5.10 and CiviCRM 2.2.2. Hopefully I'll be able to finish it tonight.

But, can you please check if your hosting meets the resource requirements of CiviCRM.

According to the list maintained here (http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRM/Hosting+provider+information), Dreamhost supported a Dupral installation of CiviCRM 1.8, except for some CiviMail issues.

Perhaps more to the point, is there an alternative hosting company that plays well with Joomla and CiviCRM?  I don't want to spend too much or care about massive CivicMail sends.  If CiviCRM works for my application, I'll look at a more robust hosting environment.

I got it to work.  I copied the UNZIPPED com_civicrm into the /tmp directory (using Cyberduck)  and like magic it worked.

I am having the same problem so I uploaded the upzipped file "com_civicrm" as well to my tmp folder. Now what? It is not there in my components.

Thanks for any input.

Eliz,

You will have to install it using Extensions>install/uninstall. select install from directory and give the location of the com_civicrm directory. Click install and have your fingers crossed. :)

Good Luck
