Unable to create activities - problem returned
May 06, 2009, 04:53:46 am
I have a new individual and want to record a scheduled activity.

I create a meeting by clicking on the meeting icon in the summary of the individual's record, fill in the form as usual and then save - I first get a validation error:

"Activity Type is a required field"

Then, unsurprisingly this is quickly followed up with:

"Sorry. A non-recoverable error has occurred.

Could not find valid Key"

I have deleted my drupal session record, and still no joy.

This kills my working with civiCRM, so any ideas bout how to get this sorted would be really appreciated.

I've then created the activity from the search results - selecting the one found record and adding an activity. This way I have to select the activity type -

First attempt to save failed - the blank form just re-loaded;

The next attempt did save successfully.

hi

can you update your forum profile with CiviCRM, Mysql, PHP, CMS versions, so we can exactly debug the things.

If you are using current stable release, would be good if you try to replicate issue here : http://demo.civicrm.org/
if issue persist,  you might want to give exact steps to replicate.

thanks

I have not been able to reproduce this anywhere. But it happens more often than not on this particular installation.

It is one of a long list of similar problems that started around two weeks ago and got steadily worse. For a couple of days truncating the drupal_session table seemed to work, but it hasn't this time, any more than deleting my user's row in that table.

On one similar post the advice was to re-install both Drupal and civiCRM - but if it is the same data....

seems like there are some other factors affecting that specific site. the errors are quite wierd and do seem session related. i'm not sure what else we can look at but will think about it and see if something pops in my head :)

'Pops into the head' is as much as I can ask for on this one. Thanks for taking the trouble to reply at all!

One thing that popped into my head was to check my browser installations. I'm on Ubuntu - checking through synaptic revealed several versions of Firefox were installed (dunno how!)

After cleaning up and re-installing I've been able to complete three New Individual's; with relationships and repeating custom data groups and recorded activities for them.

Not a huge test but earlier today I could not have got that much done without a struggle; so I'm hopeful.

I've seen a number of similar posts without any conclusion, so if this does prove to be the solution then I'll update this. Off to bed now.

Solution confirmed

The browser de-installation and installation worked. I've not had any problems for two days and I've done the same for a colleague who was starting down the slippery path - also cured on a windows system.

I believe both of us had Firefox 3.5 betas installed - theoretically they should be independent, but it seems they are not.

Damn, just as I was thinking I'd finished for the week end, the problem is back!

I'll keep you posted...

I think I have finally sorted this one - the shared host I have been using requires php.ini to be accessed through a cgi wrapper. I discovered that this had been deleted and to make things worse the .htaccess had as well - no idea how - anyway, since putting everything back together it now works. I think. Still some odd things going on and I'm relocating to a managed vps.
