Multiple methods for adding Contacts: Web, Widget, iPhone?
May 11, 2009, 06:24:39 pm
Hey all,

We run a small, on-the-go nonprofit organization, and are looking into using CiviCRM with Drupal, which already is used to run our site. One question that several members have is if they can easily add information in on-the-go places, where accessing a website form, post-login, might take too long. Of course, one of the individuals mentioned a similar iPhone app for Salesforce.

I'm pretty keen on CiviCRM, but have not noticed any external methods for adding new contacts -- are there any desktop widgets (Dashboard or Yahoo)? An iPhone app for adding/managing contacts? Even a Drupal module that allows for quick adding?

Any thoughts would be awesome -- thanks so much!

You can use the REST api to build widget / desktop apps if needed. There is a fairly active REST api group on the forums

There currently are no dashboard / desktop / iPhone apps for CiviCRM. But this would definitely make a great community contribution :)

Thanks for the note! I wish I were a better developer...

I started using CiviCRM today, and really do wish there were an easier way to add contacts. Are there other, perhaps simplified, solutions that others have thought up? For instance, ways to quickly access an "add contact" panel? Having to log waay into a Drupal install is definitely time-intensive.

Thanks so much!

p.s. I'm looking into having a universal widget built, but my budget is basically $0 -- would anyone else be willing to help raise some money for a half-pro-bono developer on this?

You should check CiviCRM Profiles either on the docs or in the book (http://en.flossmanuals.net/civicrm/). that will give you a simplified way of adding contacts without logging in
