Any interest in an Indian payment processing module?
May 12, 2009, 10:43:42 pm
I am posting this here as per Lobo's suggestion.

I have a drupal module that integrates an Indian payment processing service (www.ebs.in). Would anyone be interested in using it as the starting point for building an Indian payment processing module for CiviCRM?

Some caveats:
  • It is a drupal 5.0 module, although a port for drupal 6.0 is available as untested code
  • It was written to integrate into Ubercart, so parts of the code will be Ubercart specific
  • It doesn't support recurring subscriptions, to the best of my knowledge

Comments and suggestions are welcome about taking this idea forward.

Best,
Venkatesh

Well, I guess there isn't much interest.

More importantly, EBS have changed their policy and will not encourage payment gateway applications from non-profits in India due to chargeback fraud issues, so this project seems a non-starter.

Venkat,

We are an India based alumni organization. We are using civicrm and paypal which is working well for us. Being an organization based in India, we need to receive payments in Indian rupees for donations, membership dues and event registration etc. We cannot do this with paypal.

We would like to continue using civicrm even as we would like to accept payments in Indian rupees. We are currently using Civicrm 1.9 and Drupal 5.9 on our live site.

How do we use the module you have created?

Thanks

Eileen

Hello,

I don't believe an Indian Payment processor has been written. A few people have looked into ICICI but I don't think they followed through.

Generally an existing module for another application (e.g. Drupal) is not useful as most payment processors provide code and the work to be done is about integrating it with CiviCRM and testing it.

It's probably worth taking a look at the existing payment processors to see if any of them have added India to their list lately.

Otherwise, you could commission one to be written. I can do this if you wish or provide some advice / support to someone else. If you go down this path you should be clear about whether you wish to have your own ssl cert or use a hosted solution and whether or not you require recurring payments. You should also look into getting a developer account set up as in some cases this can be time-consuming/ complicated. With good payment processors it is just an on-line form but with some of them ....
