Can I create a new organisation and add organisation contacts on the same form?
May 17, 2009, 08:50:57 pm
Hi All,

I've been reading up on profiles and looking at how to adjust them, but it looks like I can add individual fields to an organisation field.

What I would like to do is click add new organisation and add the organisation's details  + be able to add up to 4 names of contacts for that organisation in the same form.

I'm thinking I could do this with the custom fields, and just have these as text/varchar type fields like notes that could be added, rather than having to create a new individual and use the relationships to link them to the organisation.

Is this possible?

Cheers

Rich

I don't think this is possible in current schema - a nice way forward would be to have an option such as with Event ie the ability to be able to 'add multiple contacts' and to use this when using a profile that is for registering an organisation. So that all the Individuals get created with a "Relationship = Employee of" the organisation

Hi Peter,

Did a bit of a cheat in the test for this and configured some custom fields to allow us to put a main contact for an organisation along with their title, then added another group of custom fields which is initially set to collapsed to allow more names to be added. We made the name fields searchable.

It's a fairly ugly solution, but solves this particular need. Thanks for your help.

OK - so to be clear the extra names are not creating a contact in your example and you are good with that approach? We have had to do something similar when we needed to capture the contact details for several 'caregives' in a single Event registration.

I think the goal of being able to create several related contacts through a single profile is worth keeping in mind.
