Importing Spouse Relationships

Is there a way to import into Civi spousal relationships?

I tried exporting two records existing records in Civi that were spouses to try to get a handle of the data structure that might work for importing. However, I couldn't get any spousal information to export.

I see from the other topic how you can import employee/employer relationships (http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,8003.0.html). I see how that can work for individual --> household as well. But I'd really like to import spousal info.

Thanks,

Shai

So, you should import fields to match for Contact A
and then you should find under --- Related Contact info ---
select "Spouse of"
then in new box that opens up select

- fields to match for Contact B.

and  the spouse relationship should be imported between Contact A and Contact B.

Thanks, worked like a charm. Thought I did the exact same thing before... but that time the relationship choices didn't show up. Hmm, I think that attempt was made on initial import. What worked this time was updating existing records. Is it required that the records already exist? So I did the following:

I imported just import two columns (checking the "Fill" radio for updating records): contact A external ID, contact B external id

I matched up A with the external id field for an individual and then I matched B with "is spouse of.... external ID".

After the import I checked and I saw that Civi was smart in knowing that B is a spouse of A also, even though I only set A is spouse of B. Civi understands long-term relationships  ;D

One thing I'm finding really nice is the "Fill" choice when updating records. Very nice.

Thanks for your help.
