System for Users to Log-in

Hi,
I am hoping to use CiviCRM for a not-for-profit organisation I am working for but have one major query.

We want users to be able to register on the site, but then also want them to be able to see their profile and certain information that relates to their profile.

How can this be done? I have installed a copy of CiviCRM on my local server and have been playing around with it but can't work out how to do it. The CiviMember works perfectly for users to register as we can incporate a donation into the registration, but it doesn't come with a password.

I have seen there's an API for Joomla (I really want to use Joomla for this as I have done a couple of installs already with Joomla and really like the way it works, and also need for this job to be completed by a deadline, which is maybe possible with Joomla) which allows for Joomla logins and CiviCRM Members to integrate in some way, but not entirely sure how this would work from the description.

Can anyone tell me if this is possible and what would be the best way to do this?

Thanks
Russ

You can accomplish what you want as follows:
- Create a profile in CiviCRM which has the contact fields you want to collect from folks as they register for membership
- In the Profile "Settings', set Joomla account registration option to "Account creation REQUIRED"
- Include this profile in your Online contribution/membership signup page

This will force anonymous visitors to the membership page to create a user account as they signup for membership

- Then create a front-end menu item that points to the same profile you've included in membership signup - and set access permission to authenticated users (so anonymous visitors don't see this menu).

When a logged in "member" clicks on this menu item - they will be able to see and update their data.
