Importing data from an old ACT installation
May 22, 2009, 07:39:45 am
I have a client whom I think CiviCRM would be perfect for - they're already running Drupal so it would be ideal. The problem is they are running a very old install of ACT and have quite a large amount of data in there. As far as they tell me they can export contact data as csv but it doesn't include activity data (notes etc.).

I'm wondering if anyone has experience of migrating ACT into CiviCRM, if its more of a minefield than its worth and what kind of things to watch out for. They have a database of around 10,000 contacts. Also any ideas of the process thats worked for you would be great.

Thanks,

Adam

It may not be worth it, I went through this once.

ACT is based on FoxPro and stores notes in a proprietary version of the FoxPRO Memo field.  I researched it once and found 3rd party programs what would translate the info into something more manageable, but then you have the problem of the formatting of the data and trying to parse that.
