Is it possible to create custom fields for specific groups?
May 25, 2009, 05:29:15 am
Hello CiviCRM gurus!
I have spent all morning reading the documentation but I just can't seem to find info on adding custom fields only for members of specific groups. Is this possible?
In my use case I am mapping access to and production of local food. The information I require for organic farmers is distinct from that I need for community cafe's or schools - I have 2 organization groups (producers and consumers), I've created the custom fields for the first, but selecting organisation the fields appear on all 'new organization' forms, is there a way to change this? Using views for example?
I'm using Drupal 6.12 and the latest CiviCRM (2.2.3).
Many thanks in advance for any advice you can give me,
Cheers
Durruti

No, not in v2.3 and prior. This has come up a few times in the past and i suspect someone will make an attempt to addressing this

if important to you/your org, consider sponsoring this feature and/or hiring a developer to building this

You might also be interested in the UK training camp: http://civicrm.org/civicrm/event/info?reset=1&id=4. We tend to address and figure out solutions / workarounds to these issues in the camp quite effectively.

If farmers are 'individuals' and cafes and schools are 'organisations' then you can specify the contact type when you create the custom data - but doubt that gets around your underlying issue.
