Here's a good practical example of what happens when an API changes unexpectedly:

Doesn't work with 2.2.3?

can u take a quick look and see what happened. so we can fix it for 2.2.4 (rolling out wed)

hopefully the new unit test stuff will help us catch these errors before a release
