cannot install
May 27, 2009, 04:39:29 pm
Hello,

I have PHP Myadmin.  I have never used PHP before (I just installed it to get civiCRM), so I am not sure how to install civiCRM.
I have gone to http://localhost/phpmyadmin, what is the next step?

is your CMS actually joomla or are you looking to do a standalone install? can you give more info?

No matter what you are trying to do, this is the place to start:

My CMS is Joomla.  I am not able to complete Step 4:  Run the installer.  I install the file from the directory and then a blank screen appears.  I do not get the "Component successfully installed" message.  In my tmp folder, I have a file called install_4a1df6b6b31a4 which has all the civiCRM files in it.  Did I already install civiCRM?  If so, how would I know?  One time the install did go through but the message was that

Can you

1) confirm the version of Joomla you are using
2) confirm the version of civicrm you are installing
3) a blank white screen usually means PHP error, so can you check your apache error logs and report back

Do you do everything on this part of the install page:

http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Joomla+Installation+Guide#JoomlaInstallationGuide-6.TroubleshootingResources

When you go to the blank page, what happens in your apache logs? You pasted in a huge part of the log that covers many hours. but the point is to identify what EXACTLY is getting written to the log at the time when the page tries to load. that way we can pinpoint the error.

The more info you can give here the better...

I click Install/Uninstall and I select C:\xampp\htdocs\joomla15\tmp as the directory.  A message appears in the status bar which says
Waiting for http://localhost/joomla15/administrator/index.php.

After 1-2 minutes I get the following error message:
Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 60 seconds exceeded in C:\xampp\htdocs\joomla15\libraries\joomla\filesystem\path.php on line 176.

I searched line 176 and it says, "$path = preg_replace('#[/\\\\]+#', $ds, $path)."  I could not find the words '60' or 'execution' in the path.php file.  There is no new message in the error log.

you need to extend your php max execution time in your php.ini file...you also may want to up the memory while you're in there...civi can be a memory hog. make sure your system can handle this ontop of joomla.

Can you please give me more instructions on where to find my php.ini file?  I am looking in C:\xampp\htdocs\joomla15 and it is not there.  Would it be under the Administrator or the Components folder?  I do have a htaccess file in that directory but the file has no text about php_value memory_limit 64M.  I have been referring to these instructions.  http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Joomla+Installation+Guide.  Thank you.

PHP is totally separate from your joomla install. To find where your php.ini file is located, you can make a file in the root of your webserver called 'info.php'. In this file, simply type the following:

Code: [Select]
<?php phpinfo(); ?>
Then go to that page in your web browser (http://yourwebserver/info.php).

This page will then give you tons of info on your php installation. In this page, you should see near the top (or just search for it) a section: Loaded Configuration File

Next to this is the path to your php.ini file. you can also search for 'memory_limit' and see what your current php memory is at. you can also search for max_execution_time and see what that's at.

then go into your php.ini file, change those values (increase them, you can start by pumping them way up and then bringing it down to a reasonable level). you will need to restart your webserver in order for these changes to take affect.

the other thing for you to consider would be to install joomla/civicrm on a hosted site somewhere...running your own install can be a bit tricky if you don't have experience with apache & php....but give the above a shot and see if it solves your problem.

I have installed it.  Thank you so much.  Now I just need to figure out how to add contributions to my contacts.  I will post under another topic for this.
