Member Connections

Have a site we are building here and have civi just about configured. However, we are unsure about connections.

The whole benefit of this site, is engagement with other members. It will show engagement in community classifieds, it shows in job listings, it shows in events registration when they come together. However, we haven't figured out how to allow members to connect with each other, and somewhat make it official. Like with community builder, you can visit someone's profile and request a connection. Is there a way to do this with Civi?

Not entirely clear what you mean by "requesting a connection" ... is this analogous to a "friend request" in Facebook? If so, CiviCRM doesn't currently have that functionality. If this is important to you / your clients - you should consider spec'ing out how it would work in a CiviCRM context and sponsoring or implementing ...

As a side note, I assume you know that you can use the Profile feature to create a searchable directory of "Members".
