I'm interested in a CiviCRM Profile showing up only for folks signing up for a particular Drupal role.

I'm planning on using the Auto Assign Role module for the user to pick a role:

I also see the Profile Role module which allows fields in the Drupal profile module to be associated to fields by roles.
http://drupal.org/project/profile_role

So the question is: Can I associate a CiviCRM Profile(s) to users signing up for a particular Drupal role?

not in an easy manner. You will need to implement acl hooks etc to make this happen. if interested ping us on IRC and we can walk you thru it
