yes, if you use paypal standard as your payment processor. You will see options to enable recurring contributions

Hi Lobo,

I am working with Rick on looking into CiviContribute for Democrats Abroad. We currently don't have Rob's services so we are on our own for awhile and an upgrade from our current 1.9 is still far off on the horizon.

Do I understand your answer to mean that only PayPal can handle the recurring transactions. What about Authorize.net? They do have something called "Automated Recurring Billing" but I haven't researched it completely.

The next question is would it be possible to use the current version of CiviContribute in a more-or-less standalone manner, that is, still use our Drupal 5.x front end but somehow use only the CiviContribute feature of CiviCRM 2.x? I seem to recall someone saying that this was a possibility.

Many thanks

Eileen

Authorize.net is capable of recurring billing but the CiviCRM code to take advantage of that is not currently in a usable state (it is out of date).

There have been discussions about pitching in to get someone to get it to work but at this stage it doesn't.

I believe that eWay and Elavon are also both capable (but not coded) for recurring transactions.

Re your second question - it depends what you mean by use civicontribute in Drupal. You can disable other modules and you can publish contribution pages so that people who use them are unaware of CiviCRM but to not see it at all I think you'd need to use Views integration a lot which I don't think you can at Drupal 5 level.

The CiviCRM 1.x and 2.x have significantly different schemas. You cannot run the two code bases on the same schema. It would be a good idea for DA to upgrade before adding new functionality

This question is important to me, too. So a "Pledge" in CiviCRM is not a recurring contribution? Recurring monthly contributions are the foundation of our support. The ability for a constituent to set up a recurring contribution and change it at any time is pretty much requirement number one. This should not depend on who is the payment processor. It should be handled by the DMS submitting the recurring contribution to the processor at the designated interval. So do I understand CiviCRM can't do this? That's a serious challenge.
