Contribution and custom fields question
June 05, 2009, 08:20:20 am
Hi all.

I'm trying to figure out a couple of things.

1) I placed a custom profile at the bottom of the contribution page and marked the fields as "Required" but did not seem to validate as required. the contribution page was processed with out the custom fields being filled in. How can I correct this?

2) Again on the contribution page... I want to set up a custom field that asks if this donation is in respons to a mailer and have it record the answer per donation. (yes, I know I should set up a contribution form per campain and that way it is trackable, but my management refuses to do that. I don't know why.) Is it possible to do? Does this question make any sense  ;)

Thanks all.

#1. I can't recreate this. Are you sure the Profile fields are marked as required - under Administer CiviCRM >> CiviCRM Profile >> View and Edit Fields. They should display with red asterisks on your contribution form. See this example on the public demo:

http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/contribute/transact?reset=1&action=preview&id=4

#2. Yes. Create a custom field group that is Used For : Contributions. Then add your "question(s)" as custom fields in that group (and make the fields or fields searchable so you can analyze the answers from Find Contributions or Advanced Search later on). Finally add the field(s) to the Profile you're embedding in your contribution form.

Thanks for the reply Dave. I'll give your suggestion a shot on #2. In regards to #1, I think I found my issue, administrator (me) mistake. I have two contrib. pages set up but I only had one of them with the profile in question activaed. Duh!   ;D
