Auction support?

In the documentation for CiviEvents, the examples for setting up event types and events include the mention of auctions.  However, I cannot find any information about support for auctions.  Is there support in CiviCRM for auctions?

CiviEvent does not have support for auctions. The documentation was setting up an example of an event for an auction which might be confusing. We'll try to clean this up

I found that Drupal E-commerce module includes support for auctions, and agaricdesign.com has produced a patch to make auctions nonprofit-friendly.  I don't know what the integration is between CiviCRM and E-Commerce, but there must be some as there is a "module" named E-CiviCRM.

Can anyone comment on what E-CiviCRM does?  I didn't find anything on the CiviCRM documentation or forums on it.
