Anothr drop list for Case type categories
June 06, 2009, 02:40:23 am
I have Case Types Housing Support, Adult Day Care Referral (both from CiviCase example) and have added "Information & Advice". But I need to create sub categories of each Case Type e.g.:

Residential Care:
- Choosing
- Care Assessment, etc. There about 10 for each Case Type (of which we have 15).

I need to add these all in.

Do I use a new drop-down list on the New Case form or organise this some other way (e.g. repeat the Case Type but with a hyphen and to subtype following.

Advice welcome.

At first glance, from here, it seems that the sub-categories you are talking about might be "activity types" rather than new case types - if so then you'd need to add those as activity types that you can select for the various case-types, rather than as additional case-types.

You can search by activity type and case type, and combinations, in the advanced search field, if that is a concern in terms of what you want from your data.

Hm, this raises a query, can this be done and still potentially use the timeline for a subset of activities.

Is it possible to create a drop-down list for the Subject field to save the user trying to think on her feet at the same time as getting the client details down whilst the client is on the phone? This drop-down filed would be a project category within the organisation.

1. I haven't tried using timelines yet. I imagine it is quite possible to do that.
2. So far I haved used the custom data-field and the data-entry customisation opportunites that exist through that to deal with making the client data-entry easier - it means that you are entering the details through the contact-view edit window though, not the case window.

A response to my other post indicates 2.3 may have more customiseable options. I did try to use the custom data field route but as you say it's in the wrong place. I want it in the top section just like the contact edit form for address, etc. In fact that's what I need to be replicated and that the data used is the same for both forms. Would this mean editing either would work?
