Hi,

Joomla 1.0.12 | civiCRM 1.8 beta. | php 4.4.4

Finally got CiviCRM installed. This is a whopper!!!!

I am evaluating with the aim of recommending to a client.

While the client is a non-profit, membership to the organization is selective. Each month a committee convenes to review applicants and "accept" or "decline" membership based on criteria input via a questionnaire, resume, etc.

My client needs to capture information via questionnaire at registration then make information available for review to committee, then accept or decline. Only after acceptance is membership fee due.

Can this type of extended data capture be facilitated with custom_data?

Can this type of workflow be implimented?

My client currently uses Community Builder. How does civiCRM play with CB?

Any guidance will be much appreciated.

1. This type of data capture can be facilitated via custom data. However based on the number of fields and type of fields this may or may not be the right choice. You can use profiles to create a one page form to capture data. Depending on how complex the application is along with the rules involved, might be easier to do it as a custom form and store the data in CiviCRM tables. We've used this approach quite nicely in a few client projects

2. The workflow is quite simple and is basically a one page form. If you want more complex workflow, you will need to write custom code

3. There is no integration with CB as yet. However would be great if the Joomla community would step up and contribute an integration between CiviCRM and CB. There have been a fair amount of requests for this so far, but unfortunately no one has stepped up and done it :(

Applicant moderation can be accomplished by creating a "Pending Applications" group and configuring the "questionnaire" form (which is created as a Profile in CiviCRM) to automatically put applicants in that group. Processed applicants can then be removed from this group and invited to pay their membership fee (online or offline) or sent a pre-configured "thanks / reject" email.
