Functionality of ACCESS compared to CiviCRM
June 10, 2009, 04:26:09 pm
Hello,

Has anyone migrated data from ACCESS into CiviCRM and maintained all of the types of functionality you had with ACCESS? Our org would like to use CiviCRM but has several very specific data tracking functions in ACCESS which we use as statistics. Our records are also tied to various other tables & subforms and at initial investigation it seemed CiviCRM could provide the same type of relationships & functionality but it seems this may not be the case now. Appreciate any advice/feedback on this! Thanks in advance!

Hi - welcome to civicrmland

If you were able to spell out what the relationships are you would probably get some more useful responses - but in short, yes there have been succesful migrations from Access to civicrm - obviously some things have to get rebuilt in terms of relationships but in our experience the functionality that was in Access can by and large be closely replicated in civicrm

Migration from Access is pretty common. But an Access db is all custom developed, so it's not really possible to say for sure if there's an equivalent function or structure in CiviCRM without more details. Any migration will involve thinking through your specific existing structure/functions and determining how those will fit into the CiviCRM model.
