(solved)cannot install changes php in .htaccess still white screen
June 11, 2009, 10:07:08 am
Hi folks-

I am still  not able to install CivicRm.
we are hosted at: www.cruzio.com and I have a support tic in with them.

I am on joomla 1.5.9
ETA: phpMyAdmin - 2.8.2.4 and MySQL - 5.0.45
I have changed the php values in the .htaccess files- i also increased the max execution time and the mem limit times.
I am getting the white screen on 2 differnt computers after ~12 minutes.
I have successfully uploadded other software such as community builder by this process:
---Dl software to folder on the local hard drive
---unzip (if necessary)
---extensions/install/uninstall
---Upload Package File (navigate to file)
---upload file and install.

OK, so the instructions for civicrm say to use the:
Quote
Use Install from Directory and enter the full path to the un-zipped com_civicrm directory, which should be something like: JOOMLA_ROOT/tmp/com_civicrm/. In most Joomla! installations, the root directory and /tmp/ folder will already populate the "install from directory" field. You must simply add the /com_civicrm/ subfolder at the end. Click Install.

When I try to use the install from Directory (by navigating to the location in the Upload Package File field and copy/ paste into the Install form Directory field,  I get an immediate error that says "Please enter a package directory"  Is this where my mistake is?

I have also tried all of the above with the "alt" joomla DL.

Thanks in advance for walking me through!

*******************************trying from another direction************************
from my FTP
In my tmp file I see :civicirm-2.2.5-joomla-alt.zip
and I use the Install from Directory with that zip file name
and I get the same error.

I'll keep trying

I assume the white screen is when you try to use the browse/upload/install option. That's not surprising -- the Civi package is too large to handle an upload, unpack, and install before PHP times out. Which is why the install from directory option is presented.

Install from directory consists of these steps:
1) Upload the civicrm package file to YOUR_JOOMLA_ROOT/tmp/
2) Unzipping the package file located in that directory. If you have cPanel or some other host-provided management tool you can usually unzip it that way.
3) Within Joomla go to the Install Extensions page and in the install from directory field enter: YOUR_JOOMLA_ROOT/tmp/com_civicrm/

(usually, YOUR_JOOMLA_ROOT/tmp/ is already in that field by default -- you must only add com_civicrm).

4) Click install.

Thanks for responding lcdweb.

OK-

I got it woo hoo- it was not unpackaging correctly and I had to go through and upload folder by folder.  *yawn* as there were some timeouts.

The only folder that I have that is weird is this:  I have MORE files then on the unzipped file- can someone let me know if I should delete the extra files?

path:
com_civicrm/admin/civicrm/packages/ezc/Mail/src/exceptions

these are all .php files- any typos are mine
