Profiles - two things that surprised me
June 13, 2009, 03:36:28 pm
Hi,

Looking at profiles I hit two areas where they don't behave as I expect.

1) You cannot use individual and organisation fields in the same profile so a profile with organisation fields in it can be deemed to be an organisation profile. Yet if you use an organisation profile as a search profile it will return individuals as well as organisations.

2) Even if anonymous users don't have permission to 'profile listings and forms' they can still access search profiles & results from them

Does anyone else see these as different to what they expected?

1. search is a bit special since it displays contact of all types and does not have the restrictions profiles do. The profile does not restrict the search currently (i dont think it should either, since the profile is used purely for display purposes)

2. do anonymous users have access to search? i.e. how do they get to the search form? Not sure i understand this question

2) - yes so, if I log out I can still get to

http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/profile?reset=1&gid=1

- not sure what permissions could be set to prevent this - maybe I overlooked something

1) Not a biggie as profiles can be filtered by group - it's just not how I expected it to be

On the demo machine, anon has access to "profile forms and listings". hence u see the profile. If you dont want it exposed via that url, ensure that you dont have "profile" checked in the Used for Settings for that profile
