civicrm self service

I am using civiContribute to create a civicrm New Individual. I want that after creating New Individual, he/she should be able to change his/her record in his/her profile. Previously i was creating drupal login for this purpose. But now client is saying that here should be some URL where a user can change his/her information without having any drupal login. URL should have a different key value for each Individual that should be 32 characters long.
Is it possible in the latest version of civicrm then please guide me. If it is not possible then please tell me the method so that i should be able to add this functionality. I will contribute my code to the civicrm community.

How will the user get the URL - are you sending it in the email confirmation?

If so you might want to search 'checksum' in the documentation to understand what it currently does (provides link to profile with contact's data already exposed)

These are usually sent out by civimail - not sure if they can be included in a template.
