I assume your are talking about contact edit form.

this qf element get added from : CRM/Contact/Form/Individual.php line around : 72
and displayed w/ the help of : templates/CRM/Contact/Form/Edit.tpl line around : 26

you might want to hide display of $form.suffix_id.label and $form.suffix_id.html

hope this help

You should use custom templates for this purpose, rather than hacking core files.

I am refering to the "New case for new client form". Are you saying I have to create a new form?

Yes use custom templates for templates/CRM/Case/Form/Activity/OpenCase.tpl

So a complete new copy to change this form! There is no .tpl in that folder just some .php files. where would the .tpl be?

.tpl files are in templates folder. If you are struggling to do this consider hiring someone from http://civicrm.org/professional.

I wonder if longer term we could add this to the list of things people can 'customise' to the extent that users can determine if fields such as Suffic and Nickname are to be exposed anywhere in the system.

We (charity) have limited funds so I have to hold off getting help. I understand 2.3 will have some customisation of the new case form so will await eargerly for that.
