Create a front end login for volunteers?
June 17, 2009, 01:59:42 pm
I'm sure this is simple, and I hate admitting defeat, but I can't find it. How do I create a front page log-in to force visitors to create a new user profile before giving them access to the rest of the website? Using Joomla. Thanks

You mean configure CiviCRM profile in front-end to allow users to create Joomla account ?
Do check: http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Configuring+Front-end+Profile+Listings+and+Forms+in+Joomla%21+Sites

Also to allow users to create joomla account, you must enable Create CMS user option in Profile >> Advanced Settings.

The scenario is a little unclear--

If you are looking to have people *register* for your site (create a Joomla user account) while collecting CiviCRM details as well, then Kurund's comment is what you want to do. Create a CiviCRM profile with the appropriate fields you want to collect data on, and in the advanced settings for the profile, enable the Create CMS user option. That will create both the Civi record and Joomla user account simultaneously.

If you're dealing with people who already have a Joomla account, and what you're trying to do is force them to complete a Civi profile after they login, and before they can access other resources, that becomes a bit tricky. In a Joomla user login page menu item you can control where the user is redirected after logging in. So you could redirect them to the profile edit page. But you can't really *force* them to complete it, and you wouldn't be able to hide things like user menus, etc. because once they're logged in, Joomla has recognized them as authenticated.

I seem to recall seeing some Joomla extensions that may provide some more advanced control over login redirection. Maybe something that was geared toward first-time logins. Perhaps that could provide something closer to what you want to achieve.
