batch update question

I am trying to use the batch update action. When I try and use the profile I created for the batch update individual records it gives me the message
'The contact type selected for Batch Update do not have corresponding profiles. Please make sure that Individual has a profile and try again.'
what do  I need to change?

Hi Sarah - Can you clarify the steps you are taking when you get the error. Are you trying to edit an individual contact record using the same profile you have been using for batch update? or ???

Ideally, if you can recreate enough of your setup on the demo to get the error - we can see clearly what you're doing. Otherwise, can you provide more details about the fields in the profile and the steps / civicrm screen URLs where things work (if at all) and where you get that error message.

It looks like you are trying to update Individual with non-individual profile. Make sure profile that you are using contains all individual fields.

HI- What I am trying to do, is figure out how we can use the Batch Update Via Profile function. I'm not using it for anything specific per say, just trying to understand the function. We don't use our site for any online data collection so only use it within the org, and we don't use profiles for sign-ups or anything like that.

We don't usually use profiles for entering data. Does the profile used for batch update have to be the same profile used to enter the data?

We reuse the "profile" concept for multiple things including online data collection and batch update. You can use it only for batch update and not online data collection. The two are independent and can be used in either place as needed. In your case, you will only use it for the "batch update" functionality

In general for most operations (including batch update), we like the profile to be of the same type. (i.e. for an individual or organization etc). If you get an error message like the below, please check the fields in the profile for a mixed type and remove that field. If this is still an issue, please reproduce on demo and let us know. Makes it easier for us to debug it on demo
