Test-Drive CiviCRM?
July 01, 2009, 07:15:34 pm
The CiviCRM/Drupal installation manual concludes with

"8. Test-drive CiviCRM
There should now be a CiviCRM link in your Drupal menu. Click that link and the CiviCRM Menu, Shortcuts, Search and New Individual Blocks should appear."

Where?  When I log into Drupal as administrator, there is nothing in the Drupal menu.  All I see is:
    * My account
    * Create content
    * Administer
    * Log out

Under "Administer" I see that the CiviCRM module is checked.  So how do I administer CiviCRM?

It looks like some modules are missing; what's the story:
[checked]   CiviCRM   2.2   Constituent Relationship Management CRM - v2.2. Allows sites to manage contacts, relationships and groups, and track contact activities, contributions, memberships and events.
Required by: CiviCRM CCK Contact Reference (disabled), CiviCRM CCK Activity (disabled), CiviGroup Roles Sync (disabled), CiviMember Roles Sync (disabled), CiviCRM OG Sync (disabled)
   CiviCRM CCK Activity   2.2   Create node for civicrm Activity.
Depends on: CiviCRM (enabled), Content (missing), Content_copy (missing), Taxonomy (enabled), Date (missing), Number (missing), Userreference (missing)
   CiviCRM CCK Contact Reference   2.2   Makes a CiviCRM Contact Reference CCK Field
Depends on: Content (missing), CiviCRM (enabled), Optionwidgets (missing), Text (missing)
   CiviCRM OG Sync   2.2   Synchronize Organic Groups and CiviCRM Groups and ACL's. More information at: http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence//x/nDw
Depends on: CiviCRM (enabled), Og (missing)
   CiviGroup Roles Sync   2.2   Sync Drupal Roles to CiviCRM Groups.
Depends on: CiviCRM (enabled)
   CiviMember Roles Sync   2.2   Synchronize CiviCRM Contacts with Membership Status to a specified Drupal Role both automatically and manually.
Depends on: CiviCRM (enabled)

Did you follow step 5 and apply permissions to access civicrm in admin/user/permissions? if so, can you access http://yoursite.com/civicrm ? or do you get access denied? what theme in drupal are you using?

the modules you are missing are not civicrm modules; they are drupal modules that these add-on civicrm modules will depend on (you will find that at drupal.org under the download -> modules section). looks like you need to download content (called cck -- content construction kit) and og (organic groups). these are both pretty heavy duty modules, and unless you have a specific reason to install them you might want to familiarize yourself more with the out-of-box civicrm (and drupal) first.

Yes. I got no error messages. Using the default theme.

I am installing CiviCRM/Drupal "out-of-the-box."  It's a standard installation.

Are you referring to http://domainname/drupal/sites/all/modules/civicrm/?  I have execute access to that directory but there is no executable file in the directory.  Nothing like index.php, for example.  These are the files there (plus 11 directories):
agpl-3.0.txt
civicrm-version.txt
civicrm.config.php
gpl.txt
README.txt

#1 -- in terms of the CiviCRM link...

So you applied appropriate permissions and you can get to the civicrm home page. But there is still no link in your menu. Ok, try going to admin/build/menu and check out the navigation menu from there and see if the 'civicrm' link is there. also can you send a screenshot of your left sidebar?

#2 -- in terms of these add on modules you asked about.

As I mentioned before, in order to turn them on you will need to install ADDITIONAL drupal modules (cck and og and views) to use these civicrm add-ons. so as i said before, unless you have a specific reason for these add-ons, you probably don't need to worry about them yet. if you want to be able to use them, then you've first got to install the required drupal modules (which would thus make your install not 'out-of-box').

OK, I re-installed CiviCRM (third try) and I can finally see the CiviCRM admin page.  I also added those missing Drupal modules and I also temporarily disabled them.

Next step seems to be to go through the CiviCRM configuration checklist.

Thanks for your help.

Hello All,

I will appreciate your help here.

Just like dcrane, I am not seeing Administer CiviCRM either in my left side menu. I have re installed it couple times but no luck so far.
So, this is my main concern -- how to bring the Administer CiviCRM into the left side menu.
Permissions are set accordingly. I hope modules are not a biggie here. But, anyways, all the modules are ENABLED.
(I am working on data integration from Facil to CiviCRM. Its a class project for non profit organization.)

Thanks in advance!

Do you see it in the drop-down menu we introduced in CiviCRM 3.0? (Check the demo to compare.)

If you can visit the …civicrm/admin&reset=1 URL, you can simply add it as a Drupal navigation entry.
If you found the above helpful, please consider helping us in return – you can even steer CiviCRM’s future and help us extend CiviCRM in ways useful to you.

Sorrry, i dont see any drop down menu anywhere on http://localhost/drupal page.

And i was not able to visit the …civicrm/admin&reset=1 URL,  when i typed http://localhost/drupallessons/sites/all/modules/civicrm/admin&reset=1 URL........it took me to my wamp server main page.

I looked in Administer --> Menu ---> Navigation, and did not find anything helpful there.

I have attached a file that will show how my left side bar looks like.

Anything else i can try to bring the CiviCRM admin page in my left bar. Also, my site is just empty ...no content at all.
thanks!

Re-check that the CiviCRM module is listed and enabled from Administer >> Site Building >> Modules.
If so, and you don't see CiviCRM in your menu block, then check User Permissions from Administer >> User Management >> Permissions - and make sure the "role" you're logged in as has all the permissions checked in the CiviCRM section of the Permissions page.

First of all, thanks to everybody for their contribution.

Now, the bad news is that I still have not got the "Administer CiviCRM" in my left side menu block.
But, as Dave advised, i checked all the permission boxes under administer -- user management -- permission. Then, i logged out and checked my menu block again...but no admin CiviCRM page again.
I dont know what came in my mind that I went to My ACCOUNT -- and then under my own user name i clicked View Contact Record -- and bam! there appears the CiviCRM with drop down menu on the top along with full functionality that is showed on the CiviCRM demo account on their website.

I dont know if this is the right method to use now and in future. But, if you guys have insights that will actually bring the "Administer CiviCRM" page in menu block then I will definitely want to know.

Thanks for the quick responses!
Cheers!

It wont allow me to enable or disable civicrm because the check box is grayed out which means its already checked and wont allow me to make any changes....i hope that makes sense.

I am the only user on the site ....so i am assuming i am the admin...is there a way to check it?

Lastly, I checked off all the boxes under Authenticated User....

greyed out means that there are other modules that are dependent on civicrm. you might want to disable them first, and then disable civicrm

hello all,

Thanks for your contribution. I have able to bring the CiviCRM link in my left bar. I disabled all the modules except the core modules and then enabled them again. It worked.

Cheers!
