CiviMember functionality with fee-based memberships
July 02, 2009, 10:26:18 am
I'm trying to figure out exactly how CiviMember will function. I'm not finding answers on these specifics in the documentation and could use some help.

Goal: Create an ongoing membership with option to have monthly fee charged automatically. If the charges are cancelled or missed then the membership expires.

I have PayPal standard set up for recurring donations already. My question is, if I do the following conditions will I meet my goal?
--Membership fee set to $X for duration of 1 month.
--Contribution page with option to make recurring monthly donations of $X every month aligned with that membership type.

Also what happens if user cancels or their recurring monthly donations stop? Obviously their membership will eventually expire, but can then then rejoin through that contribution page?

The membership is set to enter "Grace" status when the payment is not made.  You can adjust how long the Grace period is.  When the Grace period is over the membership is set as Status: Expired.   The membership record is never deleted, it just changes status: from Active, to Grace, to Expired.  They can renew/reactivate through the membership page, as long as they use the same email address as they did when they first joined CiviCRM will remember them and their address, phone, etc.

Great thanks so much!!!

Forgive my picky questions but this DOES work with recurring donations then too, if there's a monthly cost for the membership?

I'm worried whether those future payments will count toward the membership.

Thanks!!!

membership does not work with recurring donations. If important to you/your org consider hiring/sponsoring a developer to do the needed work
