I am unable to use CiviMail because our host doesn't use PHP5, therefore I am just using the built-in email function. I am trying to email all contacts within certain groups. When I go to compose the email, I am not able to change the FROM address. Can this be changed? Also I see all the RECIPIENT addresses. Will these be seen when the email goes out or will they be bcc'd?

The FROM name and email address is the contact name and primary email address of the logged in user (i.e. the contact who is sending the email). So, you can change it by modifying "your own" contact record.

The built-in email function does a single-threaded SMTP send - and I'm pretty sure that each contact get's their own separate email with just their recipient info. However, if you're concerned - would be good to do a quick test :-)

Finally - that function is NOT designed for mass/broadcast mailings. Both from a scalability point of view as well as "missing functionality" like opt-in/unsubscribe features, bounce tracking etc. So you should carefully consider whether it's appropriate to what you're doing - and possibly consider trying out UAS' hosted CiviMail services or CivicSpace On Demand.

Thanks for the reply.. I think this will be a one off (because of time). Already did what you suggested and formed a new Admin contact with the email address we would like to use... and tested re: recipients list. Will look into UAS CiviMail and CivicSpace on Deman as you advised.
