PayPal sandbox is failing me

I have followed all the instructions necessary to set up a paypal website payments standard sandbox environment. I have a contribution page for registering with recurring payments enabled. the payment processors are set up, the buyer and seller are both set up from the pre-configured option in the dev sandbox, and all the settings are good in the sellers profile.

At first I was having trouble because civcontribute was recognizing the payments but not paypal. Then I enabled recurring payments and now I get this error when the site is directing me to paypal it gives me this error.

"We cannot process this transaction because there is a problem with the PayPal email address supplied by the seller. Please contact the seller to resolve the problem. If this payment is for an eBay listing, you can contact the seller via the "Ask Seller a Question" link on the listing page. When you have the correct email address, payment can be made at www.paypal.com."

I am running 2.2.3 and drupal 6

any ideas are extremely welcome.

It might not be a good idea for recurring contributions but when testing paypal for normal use I found the paypal sandbox wouldn't play ball and I wasted time using it.

In the end I did live $0.50 payments. I figured my time was worth more than that.

did it work with the live payments, or was there a lot of fiddling to be done?

Hmmm, It did work - there are some paypal settings that need configuring. We were using paypal standard and found our end users found it confusing so we changed.

Well - I'm in New Zealand so my options are different to yours. I wrote a payment processor for Payment Express but I doubt that is relevant to you

You haven't said where you are. This sort of stuff is location specific.
