Install Problems CiviCRM 2.2.7 to Joomla 1.5.11
July 07, 2009, 04:23:53 pm
I see that some others had this issue with other versions of Joomla, I tried the remedies I found with no luck. Joomla 1.5.11 is installed directly on to the root folder, I have added the unzipped civicrm-2.2.7-joomla files to my /tmp/ folder. I have gone to Install/Uninstall and entered /tmp/com_civicrm/ in to the Install Directory: field.  I get "Please enter a package directory" and it won't go any further.

I updated my php.ini file with the
memory_limit = 64M
register_globals = off
max_execution_time = 600

and still no luck. Any other suggestions? I appreciate it.

that error message means you don't have the right location.
even if you're in the "root" folder -- it's the root of your public access web folders, which will be several folders deep on the server.
like: /home/ACCOUNT/public_html/tmp/com_civicrm/ or something (every server is different).
usually Joomla prepopulates the install from directory field with the folder location through /tmp/ and you just need to tack on the com_civicrm

I have successfully installed CiviCRM but also get:  "XML Parsing Error at 1:1. Error 4: Empty document" after the install. Below that states that it was successfully installed. Is this something that I should worry about?

That error message is usually thrown by Joomla when an extension's xml file (which defines all the details about the extension and provides basic installation instructions) is messed up. But I've never had it thrown with Civi before. Did you unpack and repack the Civi installation files? I found a forum topic where there was an issue with unpacking and repacking with a Mac, as a Mac creates a _FILE.xml version of the file, and the Joomla installer sees it as a second xml install file. See here: http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=466&t=356369&start=0

Regardless, if you are seeing the full menu/submenu of Civi options in the components menu, and Civi seems to be operating fine, I wouldn't worry about it.
